Tips:
26-10-04: Why?
Starting with stripping the seats to see if the frames are sound - 3 spare frames available if not!
Move seat forward to full extent, remove two rear bolts in runners. Move seat fully back and remove front two bolts. Note position of all washers under seat mounting points in carpet. Also, passenger seat has cable to unplug. Remove seat from car.
| Fully recline seat back and turn over seat and support on suitable surface (Bar stool in my case!). | |
| Push out two seat squab clips from front frame cross member and push front of squab away from seat frame. | |
| Pull seat squab forwards and away from the frame. | |
| Clips all around wire frame hold and tension squab cover. | |
| Remove row of clips along lower rear edge of seat frame to release the rear seat cover (back tension). | |
| Pull back rear cover and remove internal clips holding the inner section of the rear cover. | |
| Stretch sides down
towards base of seat and un hook a clip on both sides.
| |
| Remove the row of clips from the angle section cross member to release the tension in the front face of the seat. | |
| Rear cover pulled
off frame, note the foam is glued to the frame.
Also, a flap pulls through a slit in the foam and fastens to the bent angle section of the frame to help tension the front face of the cover - don't forget this when re-covering.
| |
| Frame completely stripped,
some rust and a broken joint, but easily repairable. This frame will be
stripped, welded and repainted before passing to a friend to re-cover
with new supports, foams and leather panels.
| |
| Seat base stripped
by removing all wire clips holding cover to inner wire of basket
structure.
| |
| Seat cover pulled
off from back to front, note flap that was passed through slot in foam to tension cover in centre.
| |
| Wire basket pulled
from foam, card liner and hessian protecting underside of foam.
Wire frame now cleaned, rust proofed and painted with black hammerite.
